This week’s Spectrum News Scholar Athlete of the Week is Ji Young Seo. Seo is a senior at Shaker High School.
She has been one of the best swimmers in New York State, qualifying for the Section 2 Division 1 Swimming and Diving Championships all four years of her high school career. Ji is the captain of the team this year, along with two fellow seniors.
Her duties for the swim program at Shaker aren’t limited to just competition, she also helps out fellow swimmers in the boys programs, as well as serving as Team Manager.
Seo is very active in Shaker’s Student Government. As a sophomore she served as a representative, as chair her junior year, and currently serves as a co-chair of the club. She has used the role to share her knowledge to fellow students about leadership.
Ji is currently helping to plan the pep rally and homecoming dance next week. In addition to current students, Seo has also organized the Shaker Alumni Hall of Fame.
Seo has been able to maintain about a 90 in all of her classes. She has taken AP classes since her freshman year. Ji plans on applying to SUNY Binghamton, Northeastern University, Princeton University and several others. She hopes to continue swimming at the collegiate level.
Ji Young Seo will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
