04 de diciembre de 2018, 17:52Santiago de Chile, Dec 4 (Prensa Latina) A Chilean judge convicted 53 former agents of the Directorate of National Intelligence (DINA), the secret police during the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship, in this capital for the assassination in 1976 of the top leaders of the Communist Party of Chile.
The other victims were Mario Jaime Zamorano Donoso, Onofre Jorge Muñoz Poutays, Uldarico Donaire Cortez, Jaime Patricio Donato Avendaño, Elisa del Carmen Escobar Cepeda, Lenin Adan Diaz Silva and Eliana Marina Espinoza Fernandez.
According to what is known about the case, the DINA set up a trap in a house on Conferencia Street, in this capital, which was the meeting place of the CPC Central Committee, where as of July 30, 1976, one after the other fell, while Victor Diaz was captured in a safe house in the municipality of Las Condes.
The eight were transferred to the Villa Grimaldi detention center, where they were tortured and killed before being finally thrown into the sea.
The maximum sentence was for the former agent Ricardo Victor Lawrence Mires, who got 20 years in prison as the author of eight charges of kidnapping and 15 years as the co-murderer of Victor Diaz Lopez, who was killed in January 1977.
For their part, the former agents Carlos Jose Leonardo Lopez Tapia and Miguel Krassnoff Martchenko were sentenced to 20 years, while the other sentences range from 15 to three years in prison, while on the civil level, the State of Chile was sentenced to compensate the relatives of the victims for a total of 3.46 billion pesos (just over 5.164 million dollars).
